Virginia (Molaska) Olson

Virginia (Molaska) Olson, 93, Iola, a town of New Hope native, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at the Iola Nursing Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst, with the Rev. Dan Hackel officiating. Interment will be in St, James Catholic Cemetery in Amherst.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass.

Voie Funeral Home in Iola assisted with arrangements. Condolences
may be offered online at www.voiefuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Olson was born March 21, 1923, in the town of New Hope
in Portage County, the eighth of 10 children of the late Arthur and Helen
(Glodowski) Thompson. She grew up in Amherst and as a teenager she worked at
the Amherst Egg Factory, candling eggs.

After World War II, she was introduced to her brother’s
friend, Edward Molaska from Kenosha. They were married Jan. 5, 1946. He died
Oct. 3, 1973.

They began their married life in Kenosha where he worked at
American Motors. In 1956, they moved to Iola where they purchased and operated
the Red Owl grocery store.

After his death, she began working at the Veterans Home in
King, where she continued to work for 13 years.

In November 1984, she was married to Carlyle Olson. He died
Jan. 13, 2008.

Survivors include two sons, Ken (Jan) Molaska, Rib Mountain,
and Roger (Linda) Molaska, Amherst; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Edward Jr.; six brothers,
Chet, Raymond, Leo, Ole, Syl and Robert Thompson; three sisters, Jennie Berg,
Viola Peters and Mary Swenson; and one grandson.
