No Injuries in Franklin St. Fire

Metro Fire crews were called to a home on the 1300 block of Franklin St. Friday after a caller reported flames and smoke inside a home there.
Crews from Stevens Point, Plover and Hull were called to the scene shortly before 5 PM on Oct. 21. According to SPFD Capt. Jodi Baganz, the fire was largely limited to a porch in the back of the home.
“The occupant there was doing some cooking, burned some popcorn and threw it out,” Baganz said. “It looks like the garbage [can] liner then ignited and caught the rest of the back porch on fire.”
Baganz said the occupant “probably saved the rest of the structure” by closing the door between the porch and the living space, largely keeping the fire separate and interior damage to a minimum.
Crews were on scene for less than an hour. Baganz said no injuries were reported.
