SPASH Advances After Playoff Win vs Wausau

By Sherry Houben
The Panthers soccer team hosted Wausau West Warriors on Thursday night at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex in the first round of play for WIAA Division 1 Boys Soccer in the Big River Conference.
SPASH seemed to easily walk away with a 2-1 win and now is ranked ninth in the state.
The first score by SPASH didn’t come until 30:15 of play, when #10 Joey Dorgan, Jr. broke through after a pass from #3 Jarett Jones. Halftime score was 1-0 in favor of SPASH.
Almost halfway into the second half, SPASH scores again. Keondre Porter, #18, kicked the ball in from an assist from #7, Clayton Morey. The game continued with plenty of pressure from SPASH, but the Warriors found a way to score after almost 84 minutes of play.
The game then turned more intense as the Warriors tried to stage a miracle comeback tie.
SPASH continued to play strong and the game ends 2-1, sending SPASH to face Hudson on Saturday.
“We created many opportunities tonight and moved the ball well,” said coach Mark Peel.
The next round for the Panthers will take place in Hudson at 5:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 22.
