SPASH Continues in Playoffs After Big Win Over Preble

A cool Friday night under the lights at Goerke Field did not disappoint SPASH fans cheering for a win to advance in the Division 1 playoffs.

SPASH dominated the game, especially in the last quarter to win the contest 31-14.

In a surprising twist, SPASH and Preble were scoreless in the first quarter. The first points on the board came in the second quarter with a field goal from SPASH’s Joey Doran.

The game then became an exciting nail-biter: Brady Woyak stripped the ball from Preble on the next drive and Panthers had an opportunity to score again, but came up short. Soon after, Preble scored a TD after a 23-yard reception, giving Green Bay the lead. SPASH answered just before the half, with a long pass from QB Rosenthal to Zach Hefland, leaving SPASH leading 10-7.

The third quarter was the game changer, when Rosenthal hit Gus Turner-Zick in the end zone, making the score 17-7 with SPASH leading.

But Preble wasn’t giving up that easily, and let SPASH know they were still in the game when their QB found a receiver for a touchdown, closing the gap to 17-14.

In the fourth quarter, Preble missed a field goal, and then it was back and forth for both teams until Woyak picked off a Preble pass, setting up a Gus Turner-Zick TD, now SPASH is eyeing the win with a lead of 24-14.

Turner-Zick got another chance to deliver the insurance TD, finding the end zone again with less than two minutes left to play. The final score was 31-14.
