Hail kale: Grow this superfood for ornamental, health benefits
By Nick Schultz – Special to The Gazette
When many plants are losing their leaves or shriveling at season’s end, the kale family is coming into its own.
Consider growing kale because:
* They’re pretty. Both ornamental kale and a vast number of culinary varieties offer beautiful hues of lavender, blue, purple, pink, red and green.
* They’re cold-tolerant plants. They continue to look good in November and even December after nearly every other plant has succumbed to freezing. Ornamental kale and cabbage actually get brighter after frost.
