SPASH boys cross country advances to State Meet

For the 11th year in a row, the Stevens Point Area Senior
High School (SPASH) boys cross country team earned a trip to state.
Sophomore Ricky Perez won the Individual Title as the
sixth-ranked Panthers finished with 31 points to win the WIAA Division 1 Sectional
Title over 20th-ranked Appleton North (67) and Hortonville (86) at Standing
Rocks County Park Saturday, Oct. 22, to send the team to the WIAA Division 1
State Meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids at 1:10 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 29.
“This is the performance we’ve been waiting for all season,”
said SPASH boys cross country coach Donn Behnke. “We had a decent effort at Neenah the first meet of
the year, but since then we’ve really struggled to have what we would consider
to be a good team race.
“Today’s the first time we felt like we were a pretty good
high school cross country team,” he said.
