Photo of the Day: Let There Be Light

City Times Staff
Crews from the city’s streets department prepare a freshly-dug hole for a streetlight on Nov. 1.
Workers are relocating four streetlights from one side of east Clark St., adjacent to St. Stephen’s Cemetery, to the other.
According to Director of Public Works Scott Schatschneider, four light poles on the outside of the Clark St. curve were repeatedly being struck and damaged by passing motorists, so the move seemed prudent.
“Those poles have had a tendency to get hit by drivers when the road has been slippery, particularly during the winter,” Schatschneider said. “Hopefully by moving them, that should eliminate the problem.”
The project was previously planned by his department, Schatschneider said, and is temporarily closing one lane of eastbound traffic. The construction will be complete by early next week, weather permitting.
