SPASH boys cross country ends up 11th at state

The sixth-ranked Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH)
boys cross country team finished 11th at the WIAA Division 1 State Meet at The
Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday, Oct. 29.
Looking for a top-five finish, the Panthers totaled 255
points, while top-ranked Madison West had 130 points to win the State Title
over second-ranked Hartland Arrowhead (137).
“This was one of those days at the State Meet where you go
home disappointed and knowing that you should’ve done better, and you had the
potential to finish much higher,” said SPASH boys cross country coach Donn
Behnke. “We knew this was going to be one of those meets where points get
spread around, and that if you can find a way to score 150 points, you’re going
to be in the mix.
“But somehow, we found a way to score 255 points,” he said. “That
was disappointing to see the points we put up on the board, and to not be in
the Top 10, it’s not at all what we hoped for.”
