Charles Albert Appel, 87, town of Saratoga, Wood County, the
father of two Portage County residents, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at his
residence.


Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church in the town of Saratoga, with the Rev. Paul Tullberg officiating.
Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the town of Grand Rapids
in Wood County.


Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until
the services.


Memorials may be designated to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
and School.


Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids assisted with
arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.taylorfuneralhome.com.


Mr. Appel was born April 3, 1929, in the town of Sigel in
Wood County, a son of the late Albert and Minnie (Bautz) Appel.


He was married to Arzella Polansky June 26, 1954, in the town
of Sigel. She died Nov. 5, 2006, after 52 years of marriage.


He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He
was a member of American Legion Post 9 in Wisconsin Rapids.


He worked at Consolidated Papers Inc. in the Wisconsin
Rapids Division for 44 years, retiring in 1991.


He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
where he held several offices. He also spent many years serving as the church
groundskeeper.


Survivors include one son, Rodney Appel, Plover; one
daughter, Sharon (Edward) Bachinski, Stevens Point; one sister, Joan Fles, New
York; one brother, David Appel, Stevens Point; five grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.


He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille
Bublitz, Elizabeth Brinkman and Helen Bushmaker; and one granddaughter.
