Portage Co. K-9 Baco Passes Away

City Times Staff
After a long battle with cancer, K-9 Baco has died.
The 10-year-old Belgian Malinois had worked in the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office for over six years and was partly responsible for over 350 drug-related arrests. Officials from the Sheriff’s Office announced Baco had cancer in April, and retired the dog from active duty in September.
“Surrounded by his family, Baco was humanely put to sleep to end any suffering,” reads a Facebook post in part from the Sheriff’s Office. “Deputy Dan Wachowiak and his wife Jill cared for Baco until the very end.”
Wachowiak started patrolling with a new K-9 partner, Yent, last week.
