Donald G. Smith, 89, Amherst, the longtime owner of the former Don Smith Sales, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Patriot Place Assisted Living in Berlin.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Boston Funeral Home. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the town of Grand Rapids in Wood County.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the service.

Mr. Smith was born April 17, 1927, in Stevens Point, a son
of the late H. Glenn and Victoria (Pliska) Smith. He grew up in Stevens Point and
attended local schools.
He was inducted into the U.S. Navy Feb. 22, 1945. He served
in World War II until he was honorably discharged July 23, 1946.
He was married to Kay Alloway Feb. 8, 1956, in Waukegan, Ill.
She died Oct. 6, 1994.
He was the owner of The Coney Island Bar and Coney Island
Motors in 1950. In 1968, he opened Don Smith Sales Inc., which was a
liquidation, closeout and retail store. The business grew to eight retail
stores throughout central Wisconsin until his retirement in 2012.
Survivors include eight children, Glenn (Beth Young) Smith,
Stanley, Ginger Smith, Denmark, Dani (Al Sanders) Kluck, Neshkoro, Donnie Smith,
Spencer, Kathleen (Shirley Kastner) Hess, Weston, David Smith, Spencer, Laurie
Zastrow, Hull, Mass., and Linda Rodriguez, Waupaca; one sister, Shirley
(William) Burmeister, Brookfield; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward; two sisters,
Eileen Sparks and Kathleen Wagner; and one grandson.
