SPASH, Amherst are win away from State Championship Game

The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) and Amherst
High School football teams will
look to advance to the State Championship Game when they compete in WIAA State
Semifinals Friday, Nov. 11.
Fifth-ranked SPASH (11-1, 7-1) will face three-time defending
State Champion and top-ranked Kimberly(12-0, 8-0) in a WIAA Division 1 State
Semifinal at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh at 7 p.m. Friday, while top-ranked and
defending Division 5 State Champion Amherst (11-1, 6-0) will take on
second-ranked Stanley-Boyd (11-1, 7-1) in a WIAA Division 5 State Semifinal at
Merrill at 7 p.m. Friday.
“That’s how it should be this time of year, it should be the
best opponent that you’ve faced all year,” said SPASH football head coach Pete
McAdams. “And there’s no doubt that it is.”
“We’re excited,” said Amherst
football head coach Mark Lusic, whose team is in the State Semifinals for the
fifth year in a row. “Every year it’s been a different team, and it’s fun.
“Losing all of those guys from last year and now coming back
again, I thought we had a chance to be good,” he said. “And we’ve come a long
way since August.”
