SPASH girls send three individuals, two relays to state

The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) girls
swimming team qualified three individuals and two relay teams for the WIAA
Division 1 State Meet at the Hudson Sectional Saturday, Nov. 5.
Junior Julia Stupar (200 freestyle and 400 freestyle),
sophomore Kennedy Gilbertson (100 freestyle and 100 backstroke) and senior Alex
Raczek (500 freestyle) each advanced to state in individual events, while they
will also compete with sophomore Casey Summers and sophomore Abbey Rosenthal in
relay events at the State Meet at the University of Wisconsin (UW) Natatorium
in Madison Saturday, Nov. 12.
“Last year, it was about just going there and experiencing
it, and this year it seems bigger, because you already got to be a part of it,”
said Raczek, who qualified for the second year in a row. “There’s some new
girls going this year, and it’s amazing to bring them with us.”
“They’re just really great kids,” said third-year SPASH
girls swimming head coach Daylyn Hopp. “They’ve worked hard, they’ve done what
we’ve asked them to do as a coaching staff, and they deserve this opportunity,
so we’re just really excited.”
