Excitement filled the room as hungry kids and parents alike gathered to share a free Thanksgiving meal on Nov. 15, served by the Portage Co. Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors.
The Berard Center saw 250 guests this year — with over 500 guests served at all six Boys & Girls Club sites — for the annual holiday tradition, which began in 2002.
“This is exciting this year because it is our first year in our new building,” said Kevin Quevillon, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club.
Traditional Thanksgiving turkey with all the fixings were served after a welcome from Anne Hatton, the Berard Center Director, a poem read by a club member and several children who read from note cards listing what they were thankful for this year.
After dinner, several frozen turkeys given away, and the club offered painting and turkey bowling activities.
