Amherst routs second-ranked Stanley-Boyd to advance to state
For the third year in a row and fourth time in five years,
the Amherst High School football team will play for
a State Title.
The top-ranked Falcons were tied 7-7 with second-ranked
Stanley-Boyd (11-2, 7-1) midway through the second quarter of their WIAA
Division 5 State Semifinal at Merrill Friday, Nov. 11, when they scored three
touchdowns in less than four minutes to carry a 28-7 lead into halftime.
(12-1, 6-0) rolled the rest of the way to a 42-15 win to advance to the WIAA
Division 5 State Championship Game, where it will take on seventh-ranked Cedar Grove Belgium
(12-1, 7-1) at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison
at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov.
“We strive for this so much, and we work so hard, and I
can’t believe it’s 42-15,” said senior offensive guard/defensive lineman Mike Singer, a First Team
All-State selection this season on both sides of the ball. “I thought it was going
to be a lot closer game.
“Stanley-Boyd’s a great team, and I’m just glad we keep
going,” he said.
“It was a heck of an effort,” said Amherst football head coach Mark Lusic.
“We’ve gotten better every week, and we’ve still got to get better.
“We’re not done yet,” he said.
