Celia M. Check, 86, Stevens Point, the wife of former
longtime Portage County Sheriff Nick Check, died Wednesday,Nov. 23, 2016, at Ministry
St. Michael’s Hospital.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday,
Dec. 3, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating.
Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.


Visitation will be at the church from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday.


Memorials will be established in her name for Operation
Bootstrap and Meals on Wheels of Stevens Point.

arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.shudafuneral.com.


Mrs. Check was born June 6, 1930, in Marathon County, a
daughter of the late John and Clara (Eckendorf) Mazoch. She attended Rosholt
schools.


She moved to Stevens Point for one summer while boarding and
working at the hospital. She then moved to Milwaukee where she worked at the Allen-Bradley
Co.


She was married to Nick Check Feb. 26, 1949, in Milwaukee.


The couple settled in Milwaukee and raised their family.


They moved to Stevens Point in 1960, and she worked at the
Portage County Home, Portage County Jail, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Food Service, and at Ore-Ida for 16 years before her retirement.


Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Nick; three children,
Patricia (Richard Etier) Check, Carrollton, Texas, Gene (Mary Di Salvo) Check,
Amherst Junction, and Terence (Andrea Shaker) Check, Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.


She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Juanita; one
son, Bill; and three sisters.
