Carter Zblewski’s field goal wins State Title for Amherst

With a chance to win the State Championship, Amherst High
School junior Carter Zblewski lined up to make the first field goal of his high
school career.
The top-ranked and defending State Champion Falcons had come
back from a 35-28 fourth-quarter deficit to tie seventh-ranked Cedar Grove-Belgium 35-35 late in the fourth quarter of the WIAA Division 5 State
Championship Game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison Thursday, Nov. 17, and
were facing fourth down from the Cedar Grove-Belgium four-yard line with 15
seconds left in regulation.
After missing the only attempt of his career earlier this
season, Carter sent the 26-yard field goal through the middle of the uprights with
nine seconds remaining to give Amherst
its second State Title in a row with a 38-35 victory.
“Once he got it up in the air, I knew it was good,” said Amherst football head
coach Mark Lusic. “He absolutely nailed it.
“He put a lot of time in the last couple of weeks practicing
that, so credit to him and credit the team,” he said.
“I’m just feeling amazing right now,” said Carter after the
game. “The last two years when we went to state, I was a freshman and a
sophomore, and I really didn’t get to play a lot.
“So actually playing in a state game really means a lot,” he
said.
