Continuing an undefeated season, the varsity SPASH hockey team posts another win against Middleton in non-conference play at K.B. Willet in Stevens Point on Friday, Dec. 3.

The Panthers easily score first at 2:30 seconds into the game on a power play, as Dayne Hoyord blasts the puck past the Middleton goalie after an assist from Barret Brooks. Just two minutes later, Cole Caufield scores off of an assist from Hoyord.

It wasn’t until almost 13 minutes of play before Middleton could answer back with a score. The first period ended with SPASH leading Middleton 2-1.

As the second period began, SPASH quickly scored in less than a minute when Caufield slapped in a goal unassisted in even play. Almost 10 minutes later Brooks assisted by Caufield score again, shorthanded. This period, Middleton needed more than 14 minutes to score. The second period ended 4-2, in favor of SPASH.

To start out the final period, as the water from the Zamboni was still freezing, SPASH stunned Middleton with a second shorthanded goal, only six seconds in. Caufield passed to Brooks, and Brooks’ shot flew by the Middleton goalie, boosting the score 5-2.

The final Panther insurance score posted late in the third period, with an assist from Hoyord to Brooks for the goal. SPASH with a decisive win, 6-2.

Panthers’ Phil Trzebiatowski is credited with 18 saves.
