Committee seeks County Board closure to revisit space issues
It may be a matter of formality, but Portage County Space and Properties Committee members voted Tuesday, Dec. 6, to move forward a resolution to the County Board to advance the $78.5 million Government Center building project.
Committee members said they were well aware of the community opposition to constructing the proposed new center, but believe they needed closure from the County Board before re-examining how to address existing space needs.
“It’s the option we went to the County Board on, and it’s the option I believe meets the needs of the county the best,” Committee Chair Jeanne Dodge said. “They (County Board supervisors) haven’t voted on this option as a whole. I look at it as getting a vote from the County Board and dealing with the response.
