Why exactly do fresh cheese curds squeak?

We’ve all had questions come up that we can’t answer.
Sometimes, those questions concern us enough that we actively seek to find answers. Other times, we just let the questions go unanswered and move on to other, more pressing things.
How about this one: Why do fresh cheese curds squeak when we chew them? The answer is not going to change the world, but it is strangely interesting enough to make me try to find out.
