Ben Franklin’s World of Business Students Back at It
For the City Times
Ninth grade students at Ben Franklin Jr. High have organized a fundraiser in hopes to bring awareness to the homeless in Stevens Point and to benefit the Salvation Army’s Hope Center.
Art Greco’s World of Business class has organized the fundraiser as part of its learning project. The fundraiser is just getting off to a start and will run until Jan. 11, 2017.
“We’re hoping to encourage 10 local businesses to match our inside fundraising efforts,” said student Leah Ernest, adding the class has raised $450, but plans to raise $1,500. “If we can have 10 businesses match anywhere from $200 up, we would reach and surpass our goal.”
The students organized all the internal fundraising events themselves, from baking treats to selling the goods at school. The project-based learning project will help students learn how an authentic businesses operates through advertising, communication, record-keeping, organization and planning.
The World of Business class hopes to raise at least $1,500 to present to Salvation Army’s Hope Center by the later part of January.
