Jay Elvid Poutinen, 71, Stevens Point, a retired University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) professor, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point after a 13-month battle with cancer.

Per his wishes, no formal services will be held.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the home of Tammy and Scott Lesandrini, 215 W. Hosmer St., Marinette, Wis. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, Mich.

The Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home in Menominee, Mich.,
assisted with arrangements.

Mr. Poutinen was born Nov. 24, 1945, in Menominee, Mich., a
son of the late Arvid and Elvera (Johnson) Poutinen. He graduated from
Menominee High School in 1963.

He received degrees at Northern Michigan and Western
Michigan universities.

He was married to Susan Harris Jan. 3, 1983.

He was a professor of marketing at Lake State University and
most recently at UWSP until his retirement in 2007. During the years, he also
consulted with many companies in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife of more than 34 years, Susan
Harris Poutinen; one daughter, Carrie (Randy) Krakora, Indiana; two brothers,
John (Alisann) Poutinen and Jeff Poutinen; and three grandchildren.
