Prestigious national duck stamp art contest coming to UWSP next year

Back in November 2012, I spent lunch one day with University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Dean of the College of Natural Resources Christine Thomas, as she recounted serving as a judge for the annual U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Federal Duck Stamp Art Competition in Ogden, Utah.

It was the first time she’d served as a judge, and among the things she told me that day was that it was possible the competition could come to Stevens Point someday.

Thomas said she put in a request to host the event in 2014. That didn’t happen, but last week, word came that the 2017 event will take place at UWSP next September. Hosting the prestigious event is a first for the university, for Stevens Point and for the state of Wisconsin.
