Vernon E. Hagen

Vernon E. Hagen, 85, Stevens Point, an area home builder, died
Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Atrium Post Acute Care Center in Stevens Point.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until
the service.

Mr. Hagen was born Feb. 27, 1931, in the town of Alban, a
son of the late Alfred and Cora (Hole) Hagen.
He was married to Nancy L. Stiebs in 1956. They had two
daughters, then later divorced.
He was married to Madeline J. Powell in 1984.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving two
Bronze Stars. He participated in the Honor Flight in 2014.
He worked in construction most of his life. He was employed
at Vetter’s Manufacturing Company (later SNE) for 11 years, leaving as foreman
of the cabinet department in Stevens Point in the 1960s.
He then focused on building houses, eventually becoming known
as Hagen Homes & Realty. He built approximately 250 homes and one apartment
building. He was the first home builder in the area to get his real estate
license and one of first in the area to have an open house.
After he retired from home building and real estate, he had
several different jobs, including being a greeter at St. Michael’s Hospital for
six years until he retired in 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline; two daughters, Jan
(Ernie) Flatoff, Plover, and Sue (Mike) Zarecki, Junction City; four
stepchildren, Becky (Tom) Mayek, Stevens Point, Eric Powell, Milladore, Laura
(Mike) Smith, Kentucky, and Amy Powell, Florida; four grandchildren; eight
stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Hagen.
