Harold L. Murphy

Harold Lavern “Murph” Murphy, 84, Stevens Point, died
Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.
No formal services will be held at his request. Cremation
with private interment will be held at a later date.
A celebration of his life will also be scheduled at a later
date.
Memorials may be made to the Portage County Humane Society
or Headstart.

Mr. Murphy was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Boscobel, a son of the
late Joseph Lavern and Elsie (Mayne) Murphy. He attended rural schools and
graduated from Boscobel High School in 1950.
He was married to Mary Lenz in 1952.
He joined the U.S. Navy for a four-year enlistment and spent
time in Tennessee, California and the territory of Hawaii.
He joined AT&T Long Lines after he was honorably
discharged, and he began a 33-year career in Madison, Milwaukee and Stevens
Point. He retired in 1990.
He was a volunteer in Special Olympics, Experimental
Aircraft Association and Telephone Pioneer projects.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary; one niece,
Dianna DeJarnette; many cousins and special friends.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Susan.
