Richard B. Huntoon

Richard Benson “Dick” Huntoon, 84, Tomahawk, father of a
Stevens Point woman, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in
Appleton.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14,
at Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk, with Pastor Mark Ziemer officiating.
Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until
the service.
Memorials may be made in his name to Grace Lutheran Church.

Mr. Huntoon was born Nov. 27, 1932, in Moline, Ill., a son
of the late Benson and Ella (Gralow) Huntoon. He grew up in Aledo, Ill.,
graduating from Aledo High School in 1950.
He entered Monmouth College (Ill.) in 1950, transferring to
the University of Illinois following his sophomore year. He graduated from the
University of Illinois-Champaign in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
He was married to Jean Robb in 1953.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and was stationed in El
Paso, Texas, and Babenhausen, Germany.
Following his discharge from service in 1958, he began a
career in Aerospace Research and Design at Chrysler Missile in Detroit, Mich. He
moved to Syracuse, N.Y., in 1959 with General Electric. In 1964, he was
employed by North American Aviation (later Rockwell International) in Columbus,
Ohio. He was employed briefly at Western Electric in Columbus, returning to
Rockwell until 1980 when he transferred to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he retired
in 1995.
Throughout his career, he performed in and directed company
bands and choirs, also serving many years as a church organist and choir
director. He also earned a Master’s of Business Administration at Capital.
He was employed as adjunct mathematics faculty at Mount
Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and later Upper Iowa University at the
Wausau campus, where he was in his 21st year of teaching at the time of his
death.
He served as a church organist and Bible study leader for
the past 41 years, currently at Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Robb Huntoon; three
children, Ben (Kathy), Columbus, Ohio, Ann (David Hastings), Stevens Point, and
John (Diana) Huntoon, Cicero, Ind.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
