James L. Soik

James Leo Soik, 74, Stevens Point, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at his home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Arul Joseph V. officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Bronislava Cemetery in Plover.
Visitation will be in the St. Faustina Room of St. Peter Church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the Mass.
A memorial in his name will be established for the Salvation
Army.

Mr. Soik was born Oct. 19, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., a son of
the late Helen and Leo Soik. He worked on the family farm. After the death of
both parents at an early age, he became responsible for his younger brother and
sisters. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School.
He attended the University of Miami, Ohio, for engineering.
He went on to Central State College (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point).
He took a job as a chemist in San Francisco, Calif., before
returning to Stevens Point where he held a variety of jobs in the area before
becoming a handyman to a cadre of clients.
He was a member of St. Peter Parish.
Survivors include one brother, Tom (Sandi), Sturgeon Bay;
two sisters, Sharon (Greg Babino) Adams, Stevens Point, and Sue (Larry) Doxrude,
Plover; one aunt, Berniece Ward, Stevens Point; one brother-in-law, Leroy Gwidt,
Stevens Point; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joan Soik and
Mary Gwidt.
