UWSP men knock off North Central at home, host Stout Wednesday
After splitting a pair of games at home against College
Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin teams last week, the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s basketball team lost to UW-Oshkosh in its
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener at Bennett Court at
Quandt Fieldhouse Wednesday, Jan. 4.
The Pointers used a pair of free throws from sophomore guard
Ethan Bublitz with 1.3 seconds left to beat 20th-ranked North Central (Ill.)
65-63 Thursday, Dec. 29, and then missed a potential game-winning three-pointer
at the buzzer to fall 78-76 to Augustana (Ill.) Saturday, Dec. 31, before it
lost 73-68 to Oshkosh (8-4, 1-0) Wednesday night.
UWSP (6-5, 0-1) will continue its conference season at UW-La
Crosse (9-3, 1-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, and then will host UW-Stout
(10-2, 1-0) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11.
“We’re excited; we’ve been looking forward to our league
opener and the conference action,” said UWSP men’s basketball head coach Bob
Semling. “This year it’s going to be incredibly competitive, and if you love to
compete and love to play this game, it doesn’t get any better than this.”
