Amherst girls basketball team off to strong start

With most of its squad back from last year, the Amherst High
School girls basketball team has continued to take a step forward this season.
The Falcons returned their top six scorers from a year ago,
when they won a share of the Central Wisconsin Conference-8 (CWC-8) Title and
finished 17-6 overall.
Amherst rolled to a 64-32 win at reigning WIAA Division 5
State Champion Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (5-6) Tuesday, Jan. 3, to move to
9-1 overall this season heading into its matchup at home against Division 5 seventh-ranked
Wausau Newman (9-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
“We’re having a real good year,” said Amherst
girls basketball head coach Gregg Jensen. “The girls I have, I enjoy working
with them immensely, because you can get on them and you can work them hard,
and they’re going to continue to come back and keep battling.
“That’s the nice thing about them, they’re a good bunch of
kids that are willing to learn,” he said. “We’re getting better every game and
better every practice, and we’re making the steps forward and having an
enjoyable year.”
