Marietta Ann Viergutz

Marietta Ann Viergutz, 88, Wausau, mother of a Plover woman,
died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at the Prairie Home Assisted Living in Menasha.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at
St. Michael Parish in Wausau. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
Visitation will be at Helke Funeral Home in Wausau from 11 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, and at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the
Mass.

Mrs. Viergutz was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Chippewa County, a
daughter of the late Walter and Agnes (Zwiefelhofer) Bleskacek. She attended a
one-room school house, Sunnyside, and graduated from Bloomer High School in
1946.
She attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Wausau and
graduated in 1949 as a registered nurse.
She was married to Allen J. Viergutz Nov. 5, 1949. They were
married for 45 years before his death Jan. 15, 1995.
They settled in Wausau and raised a family of six in the
Riverview area.
She worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Wausau
until her retirement in 1991.
She was active in the Girl Scouts with her daughters and
hockey with her sons.
She was an active volunteer at St. Michael Church and the
local food pantry, The Neighbor’s Place, the Marathon County Library and the
Pine Tree Quilters Guild.
Survivors include six children, John (Norma) Viergutz, Elko,
Nev., Mary Viergutz, Milwaukee, Allen (Kathleen) Viergutz, Normal, Ill., Jane
(Robert) Menghini, Plover, Amy (Joseph) Ziemba, Neenah, and Marla (Alan)
Erickson, Northfield, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Walter
(Elsie) Bleskacek; and one sister, Gloria (Tom) Hable.
