Annette J. ‘Ann’ Gilbert
Annette Joan “Ann” Gilbert, 76, a former Stevens Point resident with relatives in the area, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, after an 11-month battle with kidney cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Mary, Help of Christians, Catholic Church in Fairborn, Ohio, with the Rev. Thomas Nevels officiating. Interment will be at Dayton National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Monday until the Mass.
Donations may be made to a local food pantry of one’s choice,
Heifer International or Hospice of Dayton.

Mrs. Gilbert was born Sept. 17, 1940, in Bevent, a daughter
of the late Joseph and Martha (Gabor) Laska. She attended area schools, Rosholt
High School and graduated from Maria High School in Stevens Point.
After graduation, she clerked at Whitney’s Candy Shop in
Stevens Point.
She was married to Charles F. “Chuck” Gilbert of Rosholt in
July 1960 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point. They celebrated their
56th anniversary in 2016.
For 21 years, she lived in Massachusetts, Wisconsin,
California, Hawaii, Germany, Nevada, Kansas and Ohio as her husband served at 10
Air Force bases. She volunteered at Family Services Centers at Hanscom Air
Force Base, Mass.; Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.; Hickam Air Force Base,
Hawaii; and Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
She worked as a Hallmark Cards retail merchandiser in the
Greater Dayton area for 17 years before retiring in 2011.
For nearly 40 years, she served on the Finance Committee for
the Mary, Help of Christians, annual Parish Festival and was a lay reader at the
parish for more than 30 years. She has also helped with the U.S. Air Force
Marathon Expo and volunteered with the Victoria Theatre Association as an usher
for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband, Charles F. “Chuck” Gilbert;
three daughters, Margaret E. Hastings, Indiana, Elizabeth M. (Brian) Kohler,
Texas, and Joanne M. (David) Moore, Ohio; one brother, Richard (Lillian) Laska,
Wisconsin; four sisters, Lucy Kleman, Agnes Czudec, Cecilia Gorski and Marian (Phillip)
Cherek, all of Wisconsin; and one granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by one infant son, Charles
J., in 1975; seven brothers, Stanley, Roman, Anton, Chester and Ervin and
infants Joseph and Hubert; and one sister, Esther Kolpack.
