Defending National Champion Pointers set to contend again
After winning the NCAA Division III National Title last year,
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men’s hockey team will look to make
another postseason run this season.
The fourth-ranked Pointers returned eight of their Top 10
scorers, as well as junior goalie Max Milosek, from last season’s team that
finished 24-5-2 and capped their third consecutive National Championship Game appearance with a
UWSP carries a 12-3-3 record into this weekend, when it will
host eighth-ranked UW-Eau Claire (12-3-3, 2-0) for Put a Check to Cancer Night
at 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena Friday, Jan. 20, before it travels to face
UW-River Falls (8-9-1, 0-2) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
“It’s just been one of those years where we’ve battled
through a lot of adversity,” said sixth-year UWSP men’s hockey head coach Chris
Brooks. “We’ve had some injuries, we’ve had some sickness at some bad times and
just worked through it, and we’ve put ourselves in a pretty good spot here
where we’re 12-3-3.
“And we just need a good finish,” he said.
