Plover firefighters Nate Patterson (left) and Matt Koehler submerge themselves into the icy waters of Lake Pacawa on Jan. 25.
The department conducted its annual ice rescue training on Wednesday night, with firefighters taking turns playing both victim and rescuer, while wearing Mustang suit — a special flotation survival suit used during water rescues.
The exercise began at about 7:30 PM and included firefighters from Plover Station No. 1 on Post Rd., and Station No. 2 in Whiting.
Assistant Fire Chief Ken Voss said the dept. doesn’t have its own ice boat, but has done ice rescue training using boats when they work with Stevens Point firefighters.
