UWSP knocks off 12th-ranked Eau Claire, hosts fifth-ranked River Falls

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s
basketball team shot 71.4 percent from three-point range to roll to an 89-69
win at home over 12th-ranked UW-Eau Claire (14-4, 4-3) Saturday, Jan. 21, and
lost 80-74 at 24th-ranked UW-Whitewater (15-3, 4-3) Wednesday, Jan. 25.
The Pointers (9-8, 3-4) will start the second half of the
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) against fifth-ranked
UW-River Falls (17-1, 7-0) at 7 p.m. at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse
Saturday, Jan. 28, before they travel to play at UW-Oshkosh (11-7, 4-3) at 7
p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1.
“It should be a great atmosphere,” said UWSP men’s
basketball interim head coach Kent Dernbach of the River Falls
game. “We want to be the team that knocks them off.
“And more importantly, protect homecourt and see where that
might lead into the second round, to see if we can be in the hunt for a
Conference Championship,” he said.
