Verna R. Zmuda

Verna R. Zmuda, 97, Wausau, a Stevens Point native, died
Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3,
at St. Joseph Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Dennis Stanchik
officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Stevens
Point.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until
the Mass.
Brainard Funeral Home in Wausau assisted with arrangements.

Mrs. Zmuda was born July 8, 1919, in Stevens Point, a
daughter of the late Daniel and Josephine (Janecke) Nugent. She attended St.
Stephen School and graduated from Emerson High School in Stevens Point in 1937,
where she was a member of the National Honor Society for four years.
She was married to Clarence Zmuda May 10, 1941, in Waukon,
Iowa. He died March 4, 1979.
After graduation, she was employed by Hardware Mutual (now
Sentry Insurance) in offices in both Stevens Point and California. She then
worked for the Copps Corporation for 29 years, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the St. Anne’s Society of St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Stevens Point, its Parish council of Catholic Women’s Club
and the St. Joseph’s funeral choir. She was also a member of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Auxiliary Post 6289, American Legion Auxiliary Post 568 and the Harmonia
Club.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Patricia) Zmuda, Wausau; one
daughter, Susan (Mark) Burke, Wheaton, Ill.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
one sister-in-law, Ramona Nugent; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Frances
Charette; and two brothers, Ray and George Nugent.
