Phyllis L. Engebretson, age 89, of Plover, died peacefully Jan. 25, 2017 at Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Plover.

Phyllis was born Nov. 5, 1927 to the late William & Anna (Myers) Epright in Stevens Point, Wis. She grew up here, attended the local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1945.

She married Melvin “Mickey” Engebretson on Aug. 6, 1949 at First Baptist Church in Stevens Point. Mickey preceded her in death May 16, 1996.

After High School Phyllis worked for Weber Tackle tying flies until she started a family, then she worked for Marathon Bait tying flies at home for many years while she raised her eight children.

Phyllis will be remembered as an independent, self-taught woman who enjoyed keeping busy. She loved to try anything if it had to do with crafts. She especially enjoyed quilting, sewing, stenciling, and machine embroidery. If she wasn’t spending her time sewing and crafting, she enjoyed playing Solitaire on her computer, testing her luck at the casino or playing bingo. Spending time with her family was extremely important to her and she enjoyed taking her grandchildren camping with her and Mickey. Phyllis was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Centerpoint Walking Club for 12 years.

She is survived by seven children; Barbara Bublitz of Stevens Point, Susan Stommel of Plover, Jeanne (Timothy) Oksiuta of Ashland, Merry (Rodney) Seavers of Junction City, Joan (Steven) Dobeck of Plover, Larry (Teresa) Engebretson of Pheonix, Ariz., Betty (Todd) Moskonas of Stevens Point; daughter-in-law Karen Engebretson of Plover; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Marcella Monien.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin “Mickey”; sons, Jerome and James “Jim”; son-in-law, Russell Bublitz; grandsons, Michael Dobeck, & Jason Engebretson; great-granddaughter, Cora Stommel and her brother Fred Epright.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Schmit presiding. Visitation will be held at 9 AM. Wednesday until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.

Online condolences may be made to www.bostonfuneralhome.net.

The family would like to thank Maple Ridge Assisted Living & Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care that was given to Phyllis.
