Deacon Jim Maciejewski, 75
A Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon Jim will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 4, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. The Most Reverend William Patrick Callahan, Bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 4 PM to 7 PM on Friday evening at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM Saturday until the time of services at the church.
Deacon Jim was born May 15, 1941 in Milwaukee, the son of Walter and Rose (Sikorski) Maciejewski. He graduated high school from Boys Tech in 1959. He entered the United States Air Force on October 16, 1959 in Milwaukee. He served his country as an airplane mechanic and crew chief until his honorable discharge on October 15, 1963 from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC.
He began working at Mohawk Airlines in New York, before being hired at United Airlines. He retired as a captain from United after 25 years of service as a pilot. In 1980, he formed a charity “Friends of the Needy” on Mercer Island, Wash. which still helps people today. In 1991, Deacon Jim started his own mechanic business on Mercer Island, Wash.
He moved to Iola in 1994, and in 2002 began his study to become a Deacon for the Diocese of La Crosse. On Jan. 27, 2007 he was ordained Deacon, and in his 10 years of religious service assisted in the parishes of Sacred Heart, St. Adalbert, St. Mary-Torun, and St Mary- Custer.
He was also a writer and editor with Joe Jones Publishing. He was an avid old car fanatic and had an interest in anything having to do with aviation.
Deacon Jim is survived by his four children: Mark (Donna) Maciejewski, Seattle, Wash.; Teresa (Ryan) Schultz, Wausau; John (Rochelle) Maciejewski, New Port Richey, Fla.; Mike Maciejewski, Mosinee. Seven grandchildren: Maximilian, Bethany, Elena, and Sophia of Seattle; Levi of Wausau; Isaac and Shawn of New Port Richey. Two brothers: Dan (Lois) Maciejewski, Hubertus and Dave (Mary) Maciejewski, Milwaukee. His sister, Cathy (Dale) Forsea, Glendale. His sister-in-law, Jeanne Maciejewski, Cedar Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Michael and Peter.
