UWSP women’s basketball looks to remain in hunt for NCAA berth

With the return of an experienced group, the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) women’s basketball team is in position to
contend for an NCAA Division III Tournament berth this season.
The Pointers brought back six of their eight top scorers
from last season’s team that finished 21-8 and advanced to the NCAA Division
III Tournament for the seventh time in nine years.
UWSP (13-7, 5-4) will host UW-Eau Claire (11-9, 5-4) at the
Berg Gym at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, for Alumni Day and its Play4Kay Pink Game,
and then will play at 19th-ranked UW-Whitewater (18-2, 8-1) at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 8.
“It’s been a great season to date,” said 28th-year UWSP
women’s basketball head coach Shirley Egner. “We just have to stay locked in,
continue to trust one another and play off of each others’ energy.
“And then I think good things will happen for us,” she said.
