Mrs. Wachowiak was born Aug. 12, 1954, in Stevens Point, a
daughter of the late Phillip and Wanda (Penar) Cass. She was in the first
graduating class at Stevens Point Area Senior in 1972.
She was diagnosed with lupus at a young age, which
eventually took her kidneys. She was on dialysis for a time before receiving a
kidney from her brother James. This gave her 19-1/2 years, in which time she
and her husband adopted two children. Lupus struck again, taking her second
donated kidney that was donated by her sister-in-law Lisa. The donations gave
her 30 years of life, leading to her wish that more people become organ donors
to give life to others.
She was married to Peter Wachowiak June 7, 1975, in Stevens
Point.
She worked part-time at Mobile Chef with her sister-in-law
Roseann. She also catered and cleaned for Lee Dreyfus and John Joanis with her
mother-in-law Theresa Wachowiak.
Survivors include her husband of more than 41 years, Peter;
two children, Cassandra and Jacob; two brothers, Jim (Loni) Cass and Donald
(Gladys) Cass, both of Stevens Point; and four grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip and
Joseph.
