Police ID Man Killed in Sunday’s Crash

Stevens Point police have released the identity of the victim in a Sunday night crash.
Police say 21-year-old Brendan Kennedy of Stevens Point was pronounced dead at the intersection of Michigan Ave. and Main St. on Feb. 5. Kennedy was a student at UW-Stevens Point.
Police, Metro Fire and the Portage Co. Coroner were called to the scene at 10:12 PM, according to Assistant Police Chief Tom Zenner.
According to Stevens Point police, early reports indicate the driver of a pickup truck (pictured above), identified as 25-year-old Michael Peterson, also of Stevens Point, was traveling westbound on Main St. when Kennedy’s vehicle struck him from behind.
The truck with such force it spun both vehicles 180 degrees in the opposite direction.
Zenner said Peterson received “minor injuries” and did not require transportation the hospital.
Wisconsin State Patrol was at the scene conducting accident reconstruction, which is standard procedure.
The Portage Co. EMS, Traffic Incident Management Team and Sheriff’s Office also responded, closing the street to traffic for at least one block in all four directions until about 12:44 AM on Monday.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
