Silencing scientists doesn’t make problems go away
To the Editor:
If Donald Trump silenced all the Wisconsin meteorologists and had the newscasters tell us it is summer, guess what? It would still be winter. If Donald Trump silences all the climate scientists and tells us climate change isn’t real, guess what? Climate change is still real.
The Trump administration is attempting to muzzle all communication by climate scientists about the findings and conclusions of their research. Strong scientific evidence shows that we are already experiencing an increase in extreme weather events due to climate change and it will get worse. These weather events include more frequent intense heat waves, extreme precipitation events and more severe droughts. Look into the eyes of the next child you encounter. Think what their world is going to be like if we ignore and/or deny climate change.
Public opposition to the Trump denial policies is the strongest tool we have to fight this.
Let President Trump and your representatives in Congress know how you stand on this. We must show there is overwhelming opposition to denying climate change. Our country has to adopt policies to stimulate a transition from CO2 emitting fossil fuels to renewable energy fast enough to stabilize our climate.
