UWSP men’s basketball knocks off Eau Claire, hosts Platteville Wednesday

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s
basketball team split a pair of games with ranked teams this week, as it won
61-54 at then-25th-ranked UW-Eau Claire (16-6, 6-5) Saturday, Feb. 4, and lost 56-55
at home against 18th-ranked UW-Whitewater (19-3, 8-3) Wednesday, Feb. 8.

The Pointers (11-10, 5-6) will travel to play at UW-Stout (13-9,
4-7) at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and then host UW-Platteville (8-14, 1-10) on
Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.

“Our goal every single year is, we want to be playing our
best basketball into Week 17 and Week 18,” said UWSP men’s basketball interim head
coach Kent Dernbach. “In previous years, we’ve then been able to play good
basketball into the WIAC Tournament and then into the NCAA Tournament, and that
goal has not changed for us at all.

“We took a step forward last week, we were able to go 2-0
for the first time this year in a week and the goal now is to try to back that
up and then see where that can lead into Week 18,” he said.
