Letter: Testin’s Blight Bill Good Idea

To the Editor-
I found the letter on the potato “Blight Bill” by Mr. Holman very interesting. No, I do not farm potatoes, but I do like a nice baked potato every now and then, covered in butter and topped with sour cream.
What I find interesting is that our new State Senator, Mr. Testin, has introduced a bill that intrudes on the freedom of farmers. It surprises me that the party of low/no government seeks to use government in this manner.
While Mr. Holman may not be happy with this (I wonder if his land had those big Trump and Testin signs on it during the last election?), I see it as a good development for the public. Oh, I believe in the freedom of a person to do whatever they want to do, but not when it can negatively affect others. That is the price one pays to live in a civilized society. That is the role of good government, regardless of the party in charge.
I am hoping that Sen. Testin’s state governmental approach will also extend to matters of the environment. I hope he will support and encourage the Wisconsin DNR to be as active in protection of our surface waters and ground water from agricultural damage, especially in the area of the Wisconsin Central Sands region that he now represents.
