Merl Hansen, 87, Wisconsin Rapids, a Plainfield native, died
Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Our House Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids after
battling Parkinson’s disease for a number of years.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April
29, at Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 to 11 a.m.

Mr. Hansen was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Plainfield, the eldest
son of the late Edith and Harry Hansen. He graduated from Plainfield High
School in 1948.
He served in the 57th 3rd Armed Division in Korea.
He was married to Joyce Ellis in Plainfield. She died in
2013 after 59 years of marriage.
He worked for White Bros. Construction before starting a
long career with Wood County Telephone Company, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Tri-County Thresherman’s Association.
Survivors include five children: Ken (special friend Amy
Fuller) Hansen, Brenda (Dennis) Gerard and Keith (Janet) Hansen, all of
Wisconsin Rapids, Kevin (Penny) Hansen, Kansas, and Barb (Wayne) Challoner,
Alaska; one son-in-law, Kevin Garrigan, Nekoosa; two brothers, Jerry (Virginia)
Hansen and Larry Hansen; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie
Garrigan; one sister, Esther Kramer; and one brother, Phil Hansen.
