A Wisconsin Rapids man was cited for his first OWI offense after getting stuck in a playing field behind a local elementary school.
Evan M. Gagas, 28, was cited on Feb. 11 for operating while intoxicated at 3:24 AM on the 5400 block of Walter Street.
According to the incident report, Gagas was driving on roadways in the area when he decided to start off-roading.
“Basically, he was driving in the north field of Bannach [Elementary] School and got stuck,” said Stevens Point Assistant Police Chief Tom Zenner.
Gagas then phoned a friend to assist in removing his truck from the snow. While he waited for help, a resident living nearby called police to report the suspicious activity.
“That’s when we found out he was not only stuck, he was drunk,” Zenner said.
Gagas was cited for the municipal offense and released to a sober adult.
It was not immediately known if the incident caused damage to the field, which is used for area youth sporting events.
