A former Plover doctor has been convicted of sexually assaulting his patients while employed at Plover Family Practice.

Wilton C. Calderon, 46, of Old Lyme, Conn., was found guilty on Feb. 17 of two counts of third-degree sexual assault of two female patients and one count of manufacture/delivery of a Schedule I, II or III non-narcotic drug.

Calderon pleaded guilty to the three felony counts; other felonious charges were dismissed but read in for sentencing purposes.

Portage Co. Circuit Court Judge Robert Shannon found that Calderon had sexual intercourse with two patients without their consent while they were receiving treatment at the Plover Family Clinic in Plover, where he worked as a doctor of osteopathy.

Shannon also found Calderon guilty of delivering of controlled substances to a patient while engaging in a sexual acts with that patient.

The investigation into allegations against Calderon was a lengthy one, and he was formally charged in Dec. of 2015 after an eight-month investigation. According to the criminal complaint, Calderon had unwanted sexual contact with at least seven female patients, also exchanging opiate medication in exchange for sexual contact from one of the patients.

According to court records, Calderon was accused of similar behavior by two patients in 2009 and 2010, but charges were not requested in either case. Calderon’s license to practice medicine in Wisconsin was suspended in late 2015.

The prosecution of this case was handled by former Portage Co. Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Constable–who has since been elected as DA of Langlade Co., but continued working on the case after leaving Portage County.

Calderon remains free on bond. He faces a maximum fine of $60,000 and 26 years in prison, or both. He is expected to return for sentencing sometime in the next 90 days.
