James H. Gaffey Sr.

James H. Gaffey Sr., 86, Almond, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2017,
at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King where he was a resident for the past two
years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25,
at the Hardell-Holly Funeral Home in Almond. Burial with full military honors
will be at Guardian Angels Cemetery in the town of Almond.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Saturday
until the service.
Memorials would be appreciated to the Guardian Angels
Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Gaffey was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Greene Township, Holbrook,
Iowa, a son of the late Francis John and Wilhelmina Frances (Donohoe) Gaffey.
He graduated from Parnell High School in Parnell, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, training
as a tank driver.
He was married to Bridget “Bridie” Whelan, a young girl from
Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, Ireland, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in
Iowa City, Iowa, Feb. 9, 1959. She died Jan. 18, 1984.
They later moved to Almond, where he began farming.
Survivors include two children, Bernadette (Craig) Allen,
Texas, and James (Tina) Gaffey Jr., Minnesota; one sister, Jeanne Malichky,
Iowa; one brother, Merlyn Gaffey, Nebraska; four grandchildren; seven nieces and
nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Maureen Ann;
one brother, Thomas; and one sister, Carmelita.
