Orville P. “Swede” Lind

Orville P. “Swede” Lind, 96, formerly of Stevens Point, died Feb. 13, 2017, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home King.

Orville was born on January 20, 1921, in Stevens Point. He was the son of the late Oscar J. & Clara (Tufte) Lind.

He graduated from Emerson High School in 1938. He entered the service on Oct. 21, 1942, in Milwaukee. He served during WWII in France and England. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon & Good Conduct Medal. He re-enlisted and served as a Sergeant, then was honorably discharged on Oct. 10, 1948, at Fort Lewis, Wash.

His marriage to Enid F. Dew took place in June of 1945 in Bristol, England. She died on February 21, 1996.

Orville worked as a produce manager for A&P grocery store and Westgate Market at retirement.

He is survived by his children; Cheryl Lind (Don Weiler) of Wisconsin Rapids, Bronwyn Lind (Jeffrey Andrews) of California, Hans Lind (Karen) of Stevens Point. Grandchildren: Nathanael Lind (Kristin Tufo-Lind) of Portland Oregon, Parker Lind (Jenna Lind) of Stevens Point, and Taylor Lind of Stevens Point.

Great-Grandchildren; Calvin Tufo-Lind of Portland and Hazel Lind of Stevens Point. Also survived by his brother; Robert Lind (Camille), Sisters; Dorothy Witzke and Margaret Ewaskowitz. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, and brothers, Gustave, Carl and Norman. Sister; Elizabeth Westenberger. Brother-in-laws; David Ewaskowitz, Gil Witzke and Robert Westenberger. Sister-in-laws; Mary, Sylvia and Roberta. Nephews; Tom Lind, Robert Lind and Nelson Lind. Niece; Jennifer Lind.

As per Orville’s wishes cremation has taken place and services will be held in the spring.
