For the second year in a row, Amherst High School
juniors Bryce Holderman and Max Villnow will head to the WIAA Division 3
Wrestling Individual State Tournament.
Holderman (42-2) won the 195-pound weight class and Villnow
(43-2) placed second at 220 at the Bonduel Sectional at Shawano Saturday, Feb.
17, to also advance to the State Tournament at the Kohl
Center in Madison
Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 23-25.
“It’s been a whole new trip,” said Amherst wrestling head coach David Peterson.
“Last year it was a good push for them as sophomores to get down there at the
upper weights, it was a pretty big accomplishment, and they adjusted their
goals to definitely shoot higher this year.
“They’re doing the work, they’re putting in the time and
pushing each other more so this year than they did last year, because I think
they’ve tasted that success and they want to go a little bit further,” he said.
