UWSP men’s basketball closes season with win over La Crosse
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s
basketball team closed out its 2016-17 season with a win over UW-La Crosse at Bennett Court at
Quandt Fieldhouse Saturday, Feb. 17.
The Pointers trailed 71-65 with 7:59 remaining, when they went on a 23-7 run
to pull out an 88-78 victory for their fifth win in six games to end the season
14-10 overall and fourth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(WIAC) at 8-6.
“The seniors got us off to a really inspirational start,”
said UWSP men’s basketball associate head coach Kent Dernbach, who served as
the team’s interim head coach the final 13 games of the season. “Not only did
they keep that game close, it was tied well after the first media timeout, and
how well they played offensively really gave the rest of the team a lot of
confidence going forward.”
